Anyone tried or know if a 6N2P is safe in the amp driver socket? I've used 6N1P, 6922, 6DJ8 and other variants. I've seen reference to it being substituted. I think at least one of the Decware amps is an example.

What about some of the 6x6 variants, like 6K6, 6M6, etc, etc, for power tubes?

---------------

Current favorite combo: Voskhod "Rocket", single wire, grey shield, 1970's 6N1P and Visseaux 6V6, with Sophia 274B.

Please keep us posted in regards to your new preamp on order. I would be interested in trying one of the DACT stepped volume controls in my LP-1, especially if I could get a remote

I will let you know how it turns out. I did not inquire about a motorized version of this volume pot, MSRP is $250 for this pot alone. Not sure if DACT produces a motorized version. I could imagine that some added noise could come from including a motorized volume pot in this preamplifiers, unless you have a seperate power supply.

Great point. Well looking forward to your impression. That's a pretty hefty price for a simple volume control, but maybe it's totally worth it

Default New Fire Bottle

Just purchased one of Dennis's new 6L6 "Fire Bottle" amplifiers last night. He is starting my build on Monday as the one he had built was copper powdercoat and I prefer mine was done in black.

Dennis' workshop must be bustling. He just sent chassis pictures of my Green LP-2 back from the powder coater. You won't be dissapointed, he makes an extreamly transparent amp, no matter what changes, tubes, cables, source, these little amps let you know, good or bad. Lots of fun ahead.!

My LP-2 has just shipped out as well! No Beauty shots yet. That's a great looking amp, different layout than the 6v6 or KT88 amps. Enjoy!
I just ordered the pair of Pope 6v6gt from upscale. I'd hate to have waited too long to to the point they didn't have them available.
Oh and I won a NOS 596 Rectifier on eBay for a whopping 50 bucks! Looks like I have plenty of rolling ahead in my future!
Really looking forward to hear the change the LP 2 is going to make in my system.

According to Dennis, this is the new layout for his universal single-ended class A stereo amplifier. Can take 6SL7, 6SN7 or 6BX7 input tubes; 6V6 to KT-150 output tubes; and 5Y3 to 5AR4 rectifiers. Will post up my feedback and a list of suggested/recommended driver/power/rectifier combinations.

Wow, I can roll up to kt90 in my 6v6 amp. Guess he is building the universal with the larger output transformers? Did he send a under the hood picture? Curious how Different the circuit looks from my 6v6.
