Mark, Tanqueray 10 is botanical gin to the max. It even smells different from other gins. And remember the 1980's before Bombay Sapphire existed? there was only the lower proof and actually smoother [to me anyway] "Bombay"

Me, I'm old, decrepid, and have more years behind me than I have ahead.

But, if my fuzzy brain remembers a little correctly, at one time Boodles was forefront with a higher proof than many other Gins. At least in this country.

Without a doubt in my mind, the higher proof Gins do make a better Martini, yeah you might pay for it the next morning, but oh well! LOL

Drank Boodles for quite a few years in the long past, wouldn't touch anything else, then I don't know what happened? Either a bum bottle of Gin, or maybe tastes changed to make me look elsewhere?

I like botanicals to a point, yes, let's have a little character to a good Gin, but I don't want, or like a Gin where it tastes like somebody marinated a Pine Tree in it for a week.

^^^^ I really enjoyed your post!

Just about anyone over 45 has more days behind than ahead of them, so that's most of us here.

I think Boodles, Tanqueray and Beefeater always had 94 proof, as does Sapphire. I agree about the higher proof gins making better martinis. In the 1980's I wasn't into martinis, just gin and tonics.

I thought the marinated pine tree line was hilarious!

Some bottom shelf gin has great flavor, too. Years ago an old girlfriend turned me on to Booths 90 proof gin. I was surprised at the quality of the flavor and after tones. We drank our fair share of Booths while we were together and I have to admit I enjoyed it.

Been a very long time since seeing Booth's Gin. Never seen it here in New Mexico.

Distribution of Alcohol throughout the states is often an odd thing. Bell's Beers from Kalamazoo Brewing Company, some of which I really liked, it is shipped to AZ I see, but not NM. They made a quite good Porter I thought.

Dave.......If you do the same thing every day, it is no longer a special event.

I do think the next time I am in the liquor store I will look for a bottle of Booths. A little back to back comparison with Tanqueray should be interesting provided I don't get carried away with the A/B'ing.
