I'm contemplating between Kanta 3 and Sopra 2.
One parameter that i'm not sure too much about is age. The sopra was released in 2015 whereas Kanta (3) just recently this year. Is that a factor to take into account?

Three years in many technological areas is quite a lot, take TV screens as example, now i realize audio has been around longer so the technological jumps are smaller, but still.. thoughts?

Correct, I received an email that eluded to Sopra2 at $10k, which most likely means they are starting a revision.

I own the Kanta3 and I am very pleased with them, albeit I have nothing else to compare them to.

I can't send private messages yet maybe since haven't reached 10 posts even though i've been around the forum a couple of months already

Any chance you can paste that email content here? Are they new? Sopra 2s at $10K is suspicious.

Thanks

You do not have the pm option, unless you become a member. If you interested at this price point the membership is cheap.

Curious if anyone has any thoughts on the Sopra 2 vs the Magico A3? I actually ordered the Sopra 2's last night and want to make sure I didn't make a mistake in not looking at the A3's. I've read quite a few initial thoughts on the A3's and by all accounts they are well received. Thoughts?

I was able to answer my own question today. I went to a Magico dealer and demo'd the A3's. Maybe I was expecting to much, but I didn't fall in love with them. The sound stage and placement of instruments was excellent. However, the more I listened, I found the mids and highs a little harsh at times. The A3's were connected to a Dan D'Agostino Progression amp which has 600w into 4 ohms so plenty of power. Everything was streamed through Roon and they were using a Chord DAC (I didn't catch the model) and the new Chord Hugo M Scaler. I also listened to the S1 MKII's and I noticed an immediate improvement in mids and highs, very smooth. The S1's MKII's were were excellent, but lacked the lower bass of the A3's which is expected considering they are a 2-way. I also had a chance to listen to a pair of TAD-E1's and they were impressive, now discontinued so I could score an amazing deal. After all of that, I have decided to stick with the Sopra 2's. I'm sure I would love the S1 MKII's but would eventually miss the bass and I don't want to buy the sub.

I auditioned the S3 MkII, and loved it, but it cost twice what I paid for my Sopra 3s.
