4K will be released on "disc" around the end of the year, first quarter of 2016. They are going to go to tri layering on the discs to accommodate the size needed. Yes, you will need a new player capable of playing 4K discs. The movies, actual discs, you see available to buy 4K now are just "enhanced" blu rays. 4K movies/players will likely be out early 2016, barring any bugs. Also expect to start seeing more TV content in 16 as more bandwidth/etc is being freed up.

Another thing to remember is you can always download 4K movies on Sony's FMP-X10. IMO the most convenient/reliable way to watch them right now. By the end of 2016 I think you will be seeing sporting events and a lot of shows in 4K. Sony is full steam ahead with it and they are just too big for it not to take off.

I wouldn't be to concerned about ISP's throttling you. The way internet is moving speed/bandwidth won't be an issue in a year. Everything is going to fiber optic. It's like anything else, if you are willing to pay you won't have any issues. Now if you live in the middle of nowhere it may take an extra year for the speeds to get out to you. Or you could just get a VPN and never worry about throttling from your ISP.

Rich, I hate to disagree with you, but I believe your outlook is incredibly optimistic and rather generous toward content providers (of all tiers).
