Default Blu Ray Player Assistance Needed

My old Pioneer BDP-51FD blu ray player gave up yesterday. No warranty, no service contract, no video, no sound, no power. I checked all the connections and swapped power cords but it is DOA.

So, while most of the component specifications are not new to me there is one aspect I am not up on and that's streaming through a DVD player.

Currently I stream through my server (server>internet>TV/pre-pro) but I cannot get sound unless I use a infrared remote keyboard directly connected to the server. Windows Home Server 2011 assumes that if you remote into the server using a remote device (like my laptop on the network) you are not there and you don't need sound to operate.

I digress...anyway, if I put in a streaming capable blu ray player can I use that to watch Netflix, Hulu and other streaming video services vs. watching them via the internet through my server????

Thanks in advance for any advice and recommendations you may have to offer.

OPPO 95 would fit the bill

True...that's one that just made my list after a bit of research.

I wish there were better movie streaming services than Netflix or HuluPlus.

Not a blu ray player, but I love my Apple TV for Netflix and Hulu.

Paired with the Remote app, it's my go-to (even when I've had a blu ray player that can access).

+1

What I would love is something like HDTracks but for movies. Be able to buy and download an HD video file. Not streaming: buy and keep the file. Quality at least on par with Bluray.

Why doesn't something like this exists?

There's not enough bandwidth to download 50GB of data in a reasonable amount of time.

Michael.......In addition to the Oppo BDP-95 and the newer BDP-105, there is also a streaming device called Roku that connects directly to your television via HDMI and has remote control. It allows you to wirelessly stream Netflix, AmazonPrime, HuluPlus, Blockbuster, and a number of other subscription services. It also allows streaming of 100's of free movie and TV channels. The newest version is called Roku 3. Take a look at it at roku.com
