3D Dead!
It seems to me that 3D in the home is all but dead! We have zero 3D content on TV in Australia... How about you guys in the U.S. and Europe? Will manufactures of flat screens phase out 3D sets and market 4K, or do you see them pushing both?
I'd like to see 3D evolve for dedicated home theatres through projectors, but other than that it seems a dead and useless technology to me for home use! After seeing Top Gun, 3D also seems a waste of time (not to mention money) unless a film is specifically produced for 3D. I like 3D but I feel the industry is killing it in the way they go about it, mostly by trying to over-do it, and when they do it half- arsed Thoughts...

It was alive, I never cared for 3D.

-- Trevor, it's all deja vu over again.
By the way, buy 'Life of Pi' - 3D Blu-ray. |

I think they will push both. I would LOVE for them to push both, especially the way the disks are being sold currently. Blu-ray 2d and 3d in one case. As long as I have the option to put it the one I want I am happy to have the option. Now I just need to sell my projector and buy the new 3d version. Then the 4K 3d version. wait aaaaa seeecond lol

I have a 3D capable BD player and plasma TV, but to shell out another $200+ for 2 glasses!? Joke. Not for the limited program material. And what if you have friends over?
I did think Alice in Wonderland and Avatar in 3D made both better movies. So, I'm not against it.

$200 seems like a bargain! I spent $100 on 2 Adults and 2 children plus food, for one 3D movie. 3D Glasses are a purchase that you will die with in your estate, lost somewhere between your couch cushions. Plus its been around for circa. 100 years. |

-- Weird, because my last pair of active 3D glasses cost me only $20 (battery operated). ... $40 for rechargeable ones.
And passive 3D glasses are even cheaper. ...$5/pair. Oh yeah, you can buy some pair of active rechargeable 3D glasses for more, like $100, and even $150, but you don't have to. The less than $20 glasses (active), are 95% as effective (usually they simply omit the sides, to stop ambient light). ...And they are extremely light. And now a 25 cents button cell battery will last you 200 hours! Anyway, just sayin'. Last edited by LordoftheRingsEE; 03-23-2013 at 10:31 PM. |

3D is dead IMO. 3D glasses of any sort are extremely uncomfortable. I can see the shutter flicker on active glasses. Not to mention that the picture is darker.
I'm all for immersive technologies including kinetics. 8K pan & zoom cinematography @ 50fps displayed on a large screen at least as wide as your periphery is the future IMO. Add some kinetics to your chair & you're there. |

-- Methinks that some people are simply letting 3D life passed by. ... Thy missing some cool stuff, before we all die.
New 3D projectors from Sony for example gives you all the light you truly need for 3D viewing. ...And newer flicks are getting better and better; 'Life of Pi' in 3D for example. Why deprive yourself of some of the good things in life? ...No, truly though. * Don't have to do it every day, but once in a while it's very good for the new stamina, and technological equilibrium in one's life. ...Methinks honestly, and also from personal experience. |

3d is cute for cartoons.
Everything else is a waste of time IMO. |
