I have a 3D projector associated with my 5.2 system and have watched a number of movies in 3D. It is clear that the current commercially available home systems (including my Panasonic 3D projector) are not good enough. As a consequence I watch all my movies, including the 3D ones, in 2D.

I have however seen amazingly good experimental high resolution (4K and even higher) and high frame rate 3D systems which do not require glasses. They are currently being developed for use in displaying 3D CAD models (e.g., aircraft designs, 3D simulation results) and are also destined for use in high end military aircraft flight simulators.

I feel that it is simply a matter of time for these systems to become commercially available and to then trickle down to home movie systems.

---After watching Blu-ray 3D movies for amost two years, it is fading away fast now from my regular 2D viewing.
In the last few months I might have watched couple or triple 3D movies.

It is so secondary that if it didn't exist I would be perfectly happy.

Right now, in its implementation, I am bored, and my eyes are telling me to get a life! Really!
...The "New" factor is now totally "Dead"! ...Gimme true 48fps or more instead.

---...And not only that, but even the professional reviewers who were easily influencable and optimist and happy at the beginning, are starting to have a total different view about it now.

As it is at the moment (July 2012) it's not cooked properly. It tastes dark and sour, like a fake steak from processed meat (SPAM).

I have zero interest now as well

But I don't underestimate the power of technology to make it compelling in the future.

4k then 8k will be the future. These resolutions will draw you into the picture.

Passive 3D - maybe in 20 years time when it's holographic...

On rare occasions, I'll watch a documentary bluray in 3D. Apart from that, current 3D technology sucks.

More and second thoughts on 3D TV and movies. . . . .

In my earlier post, I mentioned that 3D would be good for certain novelty and niche films, especially for IMAX. Additional movies that are good for 3D are many children's movies, action movies and any movies with special effects as a prime vehicle of the movie, like the Star Wars series and others like it. 3D interests very young people/children. As they get older, and 3D technology improves, especially without glasses, 3D may well become the standard technology for all movie and TV viewing.

I think 3D will keep going...

For TV I find 3D a waste of time and I simply cannot see how it could get any better considering the screen size. This will surely die?

I think it will eventually work for home theatres with projectors but it will have to improve on its current form. It doesn't seem very user friendly somehow?

I love 3D feature films at IMAX, but thats about it at the moment.

If you bring everything into the home, is there anything to go out for anymore? Most cinemas are now home theatre size anyway and IMAX to me is the only place left that provides a 7 story screen I can't get at home.
