Depends on the speaker/driver compliment and the grills. I've found that I like the sound most with grilles off....and a set of racing pit girls in the room !!!

and then I wake up and the dream is over !

Depends on the speaker. I had a pair of Aperion Audio speakers in my kids set up that were recommended to stay on by the manufacture. My main set up is Kef Reference and they don't have grills.

I thought that I said the following before, but I guess not.
When Magnolia delivered the XRT1ks, 5 employees showed up. It would have only taken 1 guy + me, but, you know, they don't get to see big 'Macs' every day. (or at all). Anyhooey, the lead man gazed at the speakers with and w/out "clothes" and decided that they looked better "dressed". I agreed.
You would think that 74 drivers per speaker might be impressive to behold, but...not so much. It's because 72 of them are so small, I guess. 2" x 44 midrange and 3/4" x 28 tweeters. The bass drivers aren't even big for bass drivers at 10" x 2.
They sure work well though, as the specs state they're only down 3db @ 16Hz.
If I thought I could cut a veneer of something (or a sheet of stainless) to apply to the baffle with perfect accuracy on the 72 or 74 drivers, I might do that, but even then would probably leave the grills on.
It just occured to me that it might have been nice if the baffle was glossy piano-black-lacquer like the rest of the speaker. They sure look nice with the grills on.
