BeerCan,

I am new to this playground so my experience is limited but I generally know what I like and I like Focal. My 1038Be speakers have been a pleasure to listen to, so much that it drives me to consider what the upper end of the Focal line could provide. The Stella and Maestro speakers appear impressive, but so is their cost. I am pleased with the 1038s and believe they are providing a premium return in the cost/benefit analysis.

There are a lot of speakers to choose from and such a vast price range so it is important to find what pleases you and not be too influenced by others that want to tout their systems at the expense of others.

I don't know how to address the harshness as my basis for comparison is limited, but I listen to a wide range of music from The Who to Prokofiev to Nora Jones and I enjoy my sound.

Best of luck in your search and enjoy what you decide on. The bug to make an upgrade down the road is inevitable, just do it at your pace and with advice from reputable sources, such as Ivan and others in the forum, that provide commentary from real life experience without regard to personal bravado or financial gain.

Listened to a set of Focal Electra 1028be's today. What a great speaker. After hearing them I don't understand why these are not more popular. They were very smooth and seemed like a speaker you could listen to all day, perhaps lacking just a smidgen of detail you get with some other speakers. I compared them today to Dynaudio C1, Dynaudio Focus 260 and Dali Rubicon 6. I could easily own any of those speakers but liked the Focal's the best.

I completely agree. The Be tweeter is a winner!

I am about to order my Focal but was wondering . . .
For a 12' x 36' room, with the speakers on the short wall, should I get the 1038's?
If the 1028 can handle it then fine, but I can get the 1038 if they would work better.

That is a large room. If you plan to "fill" it with sound you are likely better off with the 1038's. That extra driver will help move more air (sound).

Looking forward to your 1038e review.

Bryston. Terrific 'bang for the buck'. And, Ivan is a dealer and can 'hook you up'.

How many wpc does your Luxman make? Am wondering if the 1038s might not just simply be the better choice between the two (1038/1028). Wondering if my 50wpc of tube power is enough. Listening space is fairly small, so might work, other than their physical size.

The Luxman is 30wpc @ 8ohm and 60wpc @ 4ohm

Had some very dynamic music on today, at sounds levels I will never use in real life and the amp did fine. So IMO 50wpc should be sufficient.
