Dynavector XX-2 MKII

I have not heard the XX-2 however I have used dynavector cart's for the last 15 years as my reference, going from XX-1, to te-kaitora and XV-1 since around 2001 maybe. just about to get my 2nd re-build.

There have been quite a few other cart's have come & gone (benz Ruby, Lyra Helikon). They are clear, effortless, naturally transparent - what I mean in that is you can play something like a lyra helikon and it does have a little more detail than the dyna - but it is slightly lean, leading edge and overall fatiging compared to the XV-1 which is more natural and plain fun to listen to. You end up listening more to the music. This was consistent on the lp12 and VPI.

overall a very safe bet I would suggest, but more importantly a musically satisfying choice.

BTW, you might want to buy a 2nd hand Phantom ans the Phantom II can be a little too much detail in some systems.

Thanks for the advice Shane. I will do a bit more research on the topic. I really liked the Tri-Planar on the Spiral Groove and the Tri-planar is supposed to be even airier than the Phantom II. I think the Phantom II may be just the ticket for me but I will check into it some more.

I have always wanted to hear the Tri-planer in my own system. It is more cartridge dependant compared to phantom but can sound amazing with the right cart

Hmm, yeah, the Tri-Planar/Lyra Olympos was pretty damn amazing.

It was supposed to be pretty difficult to get due to rare magnets they don't make anymore. I was told you could only upgrade from some older cartridge to Olympos. I see it advertised though unless they don't really have them. Needle Doctor 1-800-229-0644, Lyra Olympos Phono Cartridge

yes you need the old Lyra parnassus so they can use their magnets, which are impossible to get these days apparently.
