And she sounds clean and classy, too!

I LOVE this table.

I'm listening to it right now: Melody Gardot's My One and Only Thrill; talk about classy!

Somehow the RP6 won't have the same elegance, IMO, techno-brace or no...

Not altogether sure the RB303 arm will be a match for the RB700, either. The "700" is a fantastic arm.

Stephen,

If you have a chance to hear a complete top of the line Rega system ( Osiris / Isis / Ios / RS10 / and a P6 to P9 table with the Apheta - I listened to a P6- ), you will fall from your chair. It makes MUSIC like no other system I heard before.
My own system has more dynamics, more weight, a larger frequency extension, more details and precision. But guess what ? it makes LESS MUSIC than the Rega system. The Rega system, was to me and some other persons at the Paris show, who posted about it on the web, the most moving system of all the show, no matter the price. ( If you remove the Isis - which sounded terrific too- and consider the price for the complete analog Rega system, with a P9 -Apheta, it comes to 24k euros, list price. You can get the full system for less. It is not cheap but I can assure you that it sounds much better than all the 150 k euros and over sytems that were presented in Paris ! ) Period. It was the only system that could make me seat in the room and stay all day long like a kid waiting for a candy after candy after candy.....
I have put my Mc amps / preamp on sale this week.
They will be replaced by the Rega Osiris integrated amplifier. Later on, the RS10 will replace the EB1i. I believe that the REF2 is hear to stay because I think that it would add weight and dynamics compared to the Rega IOS but I will compare both side by side.
If I cannot sell my amps at a fair price ( the french market for high end audio is tiny and I love them to much to sell them for pennies ), then I will build a complete Rega system for the living room.
That could actually be the best option : having a "Reference" type of sound system with the Mcs / PMC and a pure candy, HIGHLY MUSICAL second system with the Rega.

All this to tell you that I LOVE Rega too !

Jérôme,
Thanks so much for the wonderful writeup from the Paris show! I was thinking of you this evening when I was enjoying the P5 so much and was just about to write you a PM when I saw your post.

I've read wonderful things about the Rega Isis CD player and IOS phono stage, and I am sure the Oisiris is wonderful, too, but I will never give up my Conrad-Johnson gear and my beloved Dynaudios. I am sure the complete Rega system is as wonderful as you say, and that it is MUSICAL above all.

I love the P5 enough that, as i mentioned, I will be looking into getting a P9 early next year. If that indeed happens, I have offered my P5 to a good friend who will truly appreciate it, though it will be bittersweet to part with it. It would be like parting with my C-J Premier 17, with the exception that I will never part with that.

I should mention that I have a deposit/hold on a Sumiko Pearwood Celebration II cartridge for the P5 that I will likely complete the purchase on after the holidays. The Apheta is just a bit too much of a risk for me from what I have read of the reviews of it.

If Rega were to re-design the Rega DAC so it supported asynchronous 24/96 USB, I would strongly consider that.

All my best,
Etienne.

Stephen,

Listen to the RS10 with the Osiris and we'll talk of the Dyns / CJ after that ! And I will have to listen to your Dyns with CJ. But I listened to to the big Dyns at the Paris show, with a Siltech tube preamp and the biggest Electrocompaniet monoblocks. Dyn's president was there and said that they choosed the best possible electronics to demo them. The sound was very very good. But far, very far from the Rega's ability to make music. And much more expensive.

Jérôme,
I guess you will just have to plan a trip out here to the Bay Area to hear the system, and then I will have to be your guide to wine tasting in the Napa Valley! I grew up there so I know all the insider places to go!
