So what happens when Shindo gear breaks?

No one can prove either side of the "10 years from now" question for Shindo or any other manufacturer or even for your own continued existence. And, so what? It comes down to a "buy/don't buy decision" that is intensely subjective. Each of us makes our own cut - on this and every other purchase. If you are alarmed by the circumstances of the Shindo operation, your solution is simply not to buy any Shindo gear.

Guys, Shindo mostly makes preamps and amps for crying out loud, there are no complicated parts in them. Matt has already made a point that a printed circuit board, a laser assembly or a specific transistor can be much more difficult to repair or replace going into the future. Some vintage parts, yes, so what? It's a matter of tracking one down and the point to point wiring makes it simple to replace. People restore Duesenbergs, Cords, Nash, Hudson, Packards to like new condition, think the parts for vintage automobiles are available over counter at your local Pep Boys auto store??? I can't believe I am actually even wasting my time on this thread.

1) Shindo does maintain a cache of NOS parts for repairs.
2) Once supply gets down to a certain level my understanding is new production ceases of that model.
3) As Matt mentioned, Shindo has a son who has been involved in the production of equipment for a while and can carry on the legacy (ala Koetsu)

btw, the car analogy is a good one. Take a Porsche 356. Everything is hand-built. Many are still purring around today thanks to experts who restore/rebuild and have the knowledge, skill-set and wherewithal to continue the tradition.

Other than transformers and possibly the tubes, what parts does he use that could be considered unobtainable? From the pictures I've seen, nothing inside appeared to be too exotic.
