A Musical Fidelity A1000 integrated amp from about 1990.
I swear it ran so hot you could have fried an egg on it! Last edited by Capcom; 02-27-2015 at 04:35 PM. Reason: spelling |

H.H. Scott AM-FM receiver ~1965. Those were the days when OTA stereo was one channel mono-FM and the other mono-AM.

My first system was a Sansui AU-6900 with a technics Sl-1700, I really miss that 6900. Today I have my vintage Mcintosh gear that I really enjoy.
But to be perfectly honest, my first hifi (for me when I was 17) was a stacked SEARS proffessional series that I still have compared to today's gear, not very good. |

Man, we are going WAY back here, and I don't think anyone will consider this high end, but back in the 60's I remember getting a set of AR speakers and thinking they were awesome. AR & KLH were a big deal for lots of people back then --- however I would agree, not high end. For my budget, they seemed pretty desirable. That level of equipment was a classic introduction into decent sound for the time. Later, a lot of us moved on to better stuff.

My orbit at that time centered around the Boston area where I grew up. AR used to hold live vs. recorded demonstrations typically using AR3a speakers, Dynaco MkIII amps, a PAS3 preamp and an Ampex commercial tape deck. I remember hearing a jazz quartet playing in a park in Cambridge where no one could tell live from recorded and being blown away. Another time in a hall it was a string quartet. Not long after that I heard Bozak Concert Grands for the first time and sheesh, I was off the deep end. Back to the OP, my first high end piece of kit was a McIntosh MA5100 bought in 1969.
