FreddieFerric....I have the same concerns. If the entire board is replaced, I guess I'll just have to have some faith that everything will work as it should. If it is properly built and tested, I really can't see why it wouldn't.

Question, just to clarify....was your failed attempt to have a board repaired on an MDA1000?

Still no word as yet. I spoke to service manager this morning; they are still awaiting reply from Binghamton. He said if they don't hear something by this afternoon, they will reach out directly by phone.

I just want to know which path we are on at this point.

Maybe time to consider plan B and go hunting for a unit on the secondary market. I do hope all works out for the best.

JemHadar....I've already done a bit of looking into this. While a quick and inexpensive repair is always preferred, the worst case repair scenario (with a full mainboard replacement) will still be far less expensive than buying a used replacement unit. Based on the estimate I was given, a replacement unit will still cost 3 to 4 times as much as full mainboard replacement. Another thing worth considering is that theoretically, a new mainboard should bring dividends in terms of longevity over a used replacement with ?? number of years on it.

I'm sorry that you're going through this, Pete. We've all been there at one time or another and it always just sucks. But ...

But those who've been at this a while - and I know you're one of 'em - also experience the enduring joy of components returned to use after service. That's the whole vintage thing, right? There's decade after decade after decade of fun day in and day out, with periodic "down time" for service.

Hang in there! It will be worth it! I'm listening to my Mac MR80 for a while in your honor. (As you might imagine, it's been serviced a few times.)

cleeds.....thanks! I know it will be worth it, the MDA1000 is truly a special component, almost legendary. That's one reason being without it is painful.

Speaking of the MR80, I have one of those as well. It needs service as well, and is in storage. One day I will have it serviced.
