Wasn't it FloridaBoy who was rolling 6K6GT's? He might be able to speak to their qualities. I could be mistaken.

If you decide you want to part with those EL84s they would be a nice fit for my Luxman SQ-N10 amp.

Yes, and they sound quite nice. I think I have CBS branded and Tung Sol. Both were inexpensive. I use a 5W4GT rectifier with them.

[QUOTE=Simonatsea;771892]Well, Feeling my preamp had somehow lost some of its original magic of layering, imaging and separation I replaced the original capacitors to the LP-2. And it was back to its old self with the wow factor. The Audyn copper max have about 50 hours on them at this point. They will get more time to burn in soon, I just wanted to make sure that my ears weren't lying to me. So Tiawanese $1 caps have a little more magic in them at this point in my preamp. The audyn are doing alot very well it just seems that the stereo image just isn't as crystal clear and rock solid the stock setup. Interesting hobby this.... I will be interested to hear how those Jupitor caps settle in. Maybe I'll try those power amp caps next.... Less $ outlay.
On a separate note, has anyone attempted running El84 power tubes with the use of adaptors? I have just received some NOS Phillips holland D-getter EL84s that I ordered for the Ifi stereo 50 amplifier I have just recently sold as it wasnt cutting the mustard after my experience with my Inspire setup. I have a lot of EL84's and am considering 6V6 to EL84 adapters to give them a go. I'm getting tired of tube rolling though. The Audyn Caps probably need more hours. Caps change during the burn in. One day they can sound great and the next not so great. I'm going to give the Jupiters 100 hours to settle in. The sound stage is wide and tall with them. The bass is excellent. |

Do you mean the preamp's caps upgrade or also the amp's? It appears as if you were referring to the former. If so, what did you experiment with the amp's upgrade? Thanks! Last edited by Musica Amantem; 04-04-2016 at 10:13 PM. |

I take it that the EL84's will work in the amp then? It would be a true SET at that point yes?

They were settled in before I put the Jupiters in the preamp. Caps, like tubes, compliment each other. |

I've had fun rolling tubes but found that I prefer 6V6's and 6L6's. It would be a single ended pentode. |

Thanks. The 6K6 and 6L6 Visseauxs seem to be around (not cheap though). But I haven't seen the 6V6 version. Since 6V6 has proven to be my favorite generally, I'll keep on the lookout.
