Default Simaudio 650D

The Simaudio 650D just got a stellar review from Michael Fremer at Stereophile and he said it bettered his reference digital player, the Playback Design MPS-5 CD/SACD player, on many fronts and was "overall more pleasing and less fatguing to his ears". That is quite high praise. At $8k it's 53% of the cost of the MPS-5 at $15K. Here are some pics of the Simaudio 650D:

Cyril
I have owned some Moon in the past and it was really nice gear. I have no doubt that this is a good unit.

Ivan is a dealer for Simaudio too.

Cyril.......I like Simaudio gear. Were I not such a McNut I would probably have a Simaudio stack.

I also read the review and this player has been on my mind.
Apparently by the end of the year it will have a software update allowing it to do 24/192 on the USB input.

Buddy...Michael Fremer's review mentioned it was an upgrade to the digital input board which suggested a hardware swap/upgrade and that there would be a cost associated with the upgrade. I am not sure which is accurate but I may ask for an in-home demo and find out the specifics on the USB input from my dealer. Thx

Jim/Dan...I give Michael Fremer's review of the 650D a bit more weight because he is such a vinyl-head that his raving review of the 650D just adds some credibility and weight to his recommendation of this product. I have been looking to replace my Ref CD7 with a disc spinner that also has digital inputs that support up to 24/192 hi-rez material, but I have been focusing generally on tube units like the Aesthetix Romulus and the Cary 303T (which also plays SACDs) but this review has piqued my interest in the 650D as well. Plus my local dealer carries the Sim line so I am going to see if they have the 650D in the store for demo purposes.

I previously owned the Cary 303-300 that offered both SS and Tubed outputs. I replaced the unit with the Esoteric X03-se. The Esoteric was a better unit all around but I wish it could have played HDCD discs.
