Serge.......Wow, Wow, and Wow!!! Your theater is looking beautiful, and all the attention to sound proofing, isolation, and acoustic treatments will certainly pay huge dividends. Picture framing the acoustic treatment is very attractive, as is the chair molding. The visual effect is interesting to look at without being overwhelming. I really like what you ave done so far. The colors are fabulous. A fine job, indeed.

2 channel listening impression so far. Keeping in mind the gear is all brand new... First thing that strikes you as the sound emerges from the speakers... Man, what a holographic presentation! Tightly focused images appear from behind the plane of the front wall. Side images depending on the recording will either be slightly on the outside of the speakers to completely breaking the physical barrier of the side walls. Spooky real! The instruments are super fleshed out, vocals appear to have a presence of a body besides just the voice... There is clear and definite spacing/layering of instruments front to back, if it was captured and recorded as such, the acoustic space is there. Ambiance of each and every recording is reproduced with a magnitude of clarity unheard of in any other room I've had my gear in before...One can visualize and "feel" the recording space with uncanny realism.
The next thing that leaves you speechless is the clean and clear harmonic content of each individual instrument on the recording. Often while one can appreciate many instruments at once in untreated rooms, this room allows each note, every little harmonic nuance to exist in the same space at the same time wih outmost expressive clarity and full harmonic bloom without interfering with other instruments or the sound loading up the room and tangling up the different notes of different instruments. I've never been able to appreciate the whole harmonic content of any recording to such degree. Transients seem to start and stop, fade away into space and come and go as they please from the speakers without any background noise, standing waves, echoes or room brightness impeding their arrival or decay, noise floor is so low in this room that the blackness of the background silence in the recording leaves one thinking he is sitting inside a black hole. The 900w of the Bryston sure helps in producing clean and crisp transients by having full grip and control of the Elipsa speakers but the natural low noise level of the room that is devoid of any flutter echoes, makes sure that each and every note rings out the way it is supposed to, lingers the amount of time captured on the recording and fades away into silence precisely like it was captured on the recording. Truly a new level of sound fidelity. Bass, now that is also a truly impressive area of the room's performance. Bass traps combined with half rounds soak up an incredible amount of standing waves minimizing them to the point that bass is appreciated more in terms of how it is perceived through the body rather than the often bloated and room loading waves that muck up the rest of the sound... Articulation and definition of bass is now truly impressive for the Elipsa speaker that can't quite compete with speakers Ive enjoyed recently like the Wilsons. There is a new found level of bass extension, depth and articulation from the Elipsa. Tonal balance... While we often blame, choose or praise gear that sounds a certain way in our rooms, the fully treated room instantly reminds one that the room itself has much to do with the end result. While the treatments allow one to appreciate the full dose and extenstion of the tweeters as well as woofers and the beauty of the midranges, the tonal balance is as gorgeous as it was captured on the recording or simply allows one to hear that the recording/performance is sub par but not once have I heard any ringing, harsh or abrasive highs that fatigue the ear. At least not yet! The treatments eliminate the room induced flaws and artifacts allowing one to hear and appreciate the beauty of the musical message on the recording itself. The whole experience of listening with the lights dimmed leaves me mesmerized and totally immersed into the music playing in the room, I can finally hear, enjoy and appreciate my music collection in a new and most enjoyable way. Every CD Ive played so far seems like a distant memory re-discovered and appreciated in a new way.. The investment into the full room treatment from top to bottom has paid off in ways that can't be purchased by throwing more money at better gear. I am most impressed with the outcome and ASC expertise and products. I am now looking forward to working with ASC to design and treat my 2 channel analog room. |

This is an amazing room! Your equipment will love you for the effort you put in to let them sound their best.
Edit: Will you be trying out the MEN220? I'm curious to find out whether the 220 can improve sound in a heavily treated room. Last edited by TommyC; 09-11-2010 at 03:26 PM. |

Thanks Stephen. Yes, it is already a super quality 2 channel room but it will be mostly used for theater with some occasional 2 channel listening. I would imagine the "analog room" will keep me listening to 2 channel mostly with vinyl.

There is no reason for me to go the men220 route in this room. If anything, it would have to be multi-channel but... Ron-C says treatments can't move walls. My walls are not in the way, I can hear and perceive sound beyond the walls so they don't need to be moved.

Wow!!! Thanks for sharing this incredible adventure with us Serge. Planning is everything and this project shows the value of that. It is great when companies like ASC make their particular expertise available to their customers. I think we will all be checking this thread every day to follow the progress.

Serge, very nice execution & choice using ASC products. You only have one shot to do this right when building a room, and looks like you nailed it!
