Aurender is really an impressive company. They set an example for the industry with their constant updates.

Definitely...unlike many other products, it is clear they are designed as audiophile devices first and servers/streamers as functionality, not the other way around!

A firmware MQA Core decoding engine for the Aurender N10 will be available soon. Aurender has completed discussions with MQA on a licensing agreement to offer a paid upgrade that would allow the user to enable or disable MQA Core decoding for use with non-MQA DAC hardware or MQA certified Renderer hardware, such as the Berkeley Audio Designs Alpha Reference Series 2. The MQA firmware upgrade is gone thru and passed all MQA certification testing. It’s ready to go and implementation will be very easy as it will be a $50 download from the Apple APP Store. Aurender is waiting for Apple to approve the upgrade software/firmware and put it up in the Apple APP Store. Everyone at Aurender expects this to happen this month (DEC 2017). I would assume this update would also be applicable to the W20. Not sure about other models that may have less powerful processors. I would contact your Aurender dealer for applicability to models other than the N10.

MAXPWR.......What is the source of this information? Is this information gleaned from some other audio forum, or is this information directly from Aurender?

If this information is accurate, it certainly is exciting news for Aurender N10 owners.

This information is from the Aurender dealer that I purchased my N10 combined with information from Aurender Support. The timing on when it will happen and cost is from my dealer and the way the update will be provided is from Aurender Support personal.

Don't fully understand this, when connecting my small Meridian Explorer2 DAC to my Aurender N100H, I already seem to get the full MQA treatment. (mode LED is indicating blue Studio master quality on Tidal MQA files)

Your Meridian Explorer 2 DAC is able to do both the MQA decoding (the first unfolding) and the final rendering in the DAC hardware. Your DAC only needs a server that can store MQA encoded files. Your N100H and other Aurender models do have the ability to store MQA encoded files as they are no different than other FLAC type files. Other DACs, like my Berkeley Reference Series MQA DAC only have the ability to do the final DAC reendering step. It does not do the “Core Decoding Engine” function (first unfolding). This latest firmware upgrade for the N10 (and I suspect other Aurender models) will now provide the “Core Decoding Engine” functionality required by DACs that do not have the decoding engine functionality. Hope this helps....Jim

It’s not that the Berkeley doesn’t have the ability to unfold the MQA code per se... it’s that having the DAC chip doing double duty would compromise the reference level sound quality.
