IMO one of the most beautiful plane ever designed. Still by today’s standards it does not look outdated. A marvel of engineering.

Based on performance the SR-71 is still 'current'. They are amazingly large and were pretty much a flying gas-tank with very high performance engines, cameras & a pilot. There are a bunch (25) scattered about in museums around the country. https://www.sr-71.org/blackbird/locations.php

Amazing technological marvel at the time of development and still impressive today.

Side note... It was $34,000,000.00 in 1966 which equates to $269,000,000 in 2020. While the price certainly was/is eyebrow raising, the shocking part is the inflation. From 1966 to 2020, inflation went up 691%.

A $1 in 1966 is $7.91 today. I shudder to think what it will be in another 50 years and there is no “risk free” way to invest money to keep up with inflation due to interest rates being virtually zero these days and for any foreseeable future.

Not that I expect to be around in another 50 years...

Saw one do a flyover above NAS Moffett at an early-to-mid-1980s air show (I remember the approximate time frame because the Blue Angels were flying A4s that day). Breathtaking sight.

The next time I saw one was in August 2013 at the Evergreen Air Museum in McMinnville OR. Even more impressive to see it up close.
