I really liked the GoldenEar Triton 1's. Big speakers with a built-in powered subwoofer. The beauty of the SLI-80's mid's and high's, with the authority of the 1600w SS bass makes for a very good sounding, great value, high end amp/speaker system.

The Triton One's were bigger than I expected. Those subwoofers are powerful!

Have used a pair of Joseph Audio RM7XLs and am now using a pair of Focal Electra 1008BeIIs. Both are an excellent pairing with the SLI-80 to my ears. I tend to favor 89db+ speakers with the SLI-80.

Sounds great. I had the full "F1" treatment done via Upscale Audio and it made a big difference. The SLI-80 with the upgrades is an outstanding amp and headphone amp.

It is going to be funny not have rectifiers on the unit. The Hexfreds take that job on. I am ordering the V-Caps myself and saving $150 vs them selling them to me. Marc at Cary said just send them in and they will do the install.

Hmmm............. are you sure? Mine still has the 5U4s and won't work without them.

Talking to them last week, Mark told me they would remove the Rectifier plugs and the job would be assigned to the Hexfreds. The unit would return with plugs covering where the rectifiers has previously been.

Clearly though I may not have understood. I just ran across a picture of the Ultimate I took at RMAF last year and it still has the Rectifier tubes....This is why I listen and I do not design.

Here is the pic I took

Interesting. Will ask Steve Witek. Am planning to schedule mine in for the filament circuit upgrades in October (am driving to Atlanta, so can drop off on Wed and pick up on Mon). Have given lots of thought to 'upgrading' (probably a misnomer in this case) to an integrated amp (BAT VK-3000SE, Levinson 383, Accuphase E-470, McIntosh MA6600, etc.) that has a remote that allows one to switch between inputs, turn on/off, etc. But, whenever I listen extensively, am so favorably impressed with the sound I cannot 'hear' any reason to make the change. Can then take the several $K savings and put into additional music, more cartridges, speaker up-grade (likely another misnomer) or another great trip to somewhere.
