OK, I've read through this thread..........trying to put myself in Tom's shoes here, look, this really shouldn't be this difficult, ask your dealer to loan you another McIntosh power amplifier for an evening, plug it in. Does it hum or not? If so, then it's 99.9% something going on with your power line that isn't playing well with McIntosh equipment and you know that unfortunately you'll have to deal with the power company. If the borrowed amplifier is silent, then let your dealer know to order you a new one and drop the old one off when the new one comes in, take the new one home and enjoy. I can't imagine a McIntosh dealer having a problem with this. That's the road I would've taken on the second day of owning the buzzing amplifier. This should take care of said problem.

Ouch.....OK, guess I missed that somehow. Then looks like it's time to contact the power company unless there is a "batch" of amplifiers that are defective which I'd have a hard time believing, but I suppose it's possible. What about a comparable other brand that the dealer carries? I realize the engineering is different, but it may give you a clue if there is a buzz and if it's louder or softer.

It took me over 6 months to convince my electric company that there is a power transformer on the pole across the street from my house and that it could support a 200 amp service for me. I had to take pictures and present them at a meeting and instead of apologizing, they said "we will look into it". It took 3 more months before I got the go ahead from them to have the work done. I needed their approval because the drop line needed to be upgraded to handle the extra wattage. This guy is doomed if his electric company is similar to mine.

His problem has been brought forth at nauseum on 3 different audio forums over 2 months with numerous suggestions given, and his end result being McIntosh bashing.

I am done.
