I use my XA100.5 with Wilson Sashas, and it takes a very loud and complex song to feather the needle. They are also 91dB, but they have a somewhat challenging nominal impedance (1.8ohm @ 92Hz). Even if the needle moves, you're barely leaving Class A for more than an instant. I can't say I regret not going with the XA160.5s.

Glad you are very happy with the XA100.5's. Amazing amps.

It needs to be on your cables, in your room and with your speakers and gear.

I have tried like heck to move the needles on my 160.5's - to no avail. I was told this about my 160.5's - "they produce 328 watts into 4ohms of pure class A. Once the needle gets past "about 2 o'clock" - you are above the 328 watts and now into class a/a/b which can deliver a lot more power - BUT distortion will increase as well." If this happens - I'll look like the guy on the old Maxell commercial! This is worth a read: https://passlabs.com/articles/leaving-class-a

My speakers can only handle 300 watts, and 30 watts is bloody loud. So, I would need to be pushing 300 watts to start to see the needles move.

Are your speakers 4ohm? If so - then you should be fine. If you can make the move to the 160.5's - then you may have an amp for life (unless your name is Mike or Joe!)

Thanks for the input guys. Based on what you all have said the xa100.5s should be plenty. I will have a chance to hear them next weekend.

Mike...my speakers have an impedance of 8ohm with 91 dB efficiency.

I'll throw an idea at you .... Jim's x600.5's are for sale here at a great price. They might be a better bet on 8ohm speakers. They are Class A for the first 80 watts, and then you would have over 520 watts more into Class A/B. The best of both worlds if you will. Just a thought.

Thanks Joe. Did you end up ordering the XA160.5s? I'll be interested in your thoughts. I'd like to hear the Xs-150 some day, but that could be detrimental to my wallet!

I came close to pulling the trigger. My XA100.5 should be shipping out it a couple of days. I was hoping my 911's will be on their way soon too. I plan on taking next week to see what happens. Either I just order the XA160.5's in the next few weeks or double down and wait for the Xs150's.

It works just fine. Is it the best cable out there? No. It is a great cable for the price.
