Thanks for that.

I know I would love the MC452...but I'm afraid that the MC601s would always be a nagging "what if?".

Which would you choose?

It be easier to move the MC611 into place but not sure if hear much difference between these 2 amplifiers.

Thoughts on this?

It is all in the listen. If your dealer cannot demo the 462 and 611 back to back, find another dealer. Then listen and decide for yourself. That said, I do prefer two M 75 mono blocks over an M 275

How many 452’s are left? I thought McIntosh did their last build of these a month ago?

OK I have done extensive listening with my amps, the 601s and the 452 with the MX150 and the C500t rigs.

I guess it is hard to put a number on it % wise, but they are more alike than not alike. So outside of the power edge, maybe a tad more better black.. aka a smidgen less noise, but not that the 452 makes any noise.

I also think the tonal quality is about 95% the same, maybe the biggest diff is i think the 601s seem to be a little more 3d in terms of hearing the placement of the instruments in the band while playing.

Again both great choices, I really do not think you would hear a lot of diff, and I totally get where you are coming from.

Are you thinking maybe what about a used set of 601s? anyone here got any for sale?

Now as I said before, but a lot more $$$ and if I was in a better place like 3 years ago, i would sell my 601s and go tube amps.

Good luck, I know it is agonizing buddy!

If you are contemplating tubes perhaps a pair of MC275’s.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I have heard both the MC452 and MC601s, albeit on different systems. They are both amazing amps. The difference I heard could have had more to do with the speakers, than the amps, but the system with the MC601s definitely had a leg up on the one with the MC452. It was the aforementioned 3D placement of the instruments (seemingly better separation and dynamics).

Yes, I was thinking of a used set of MC601s, but am still a ways off, financially.
Your comment was a good reminder that I still need to subscribe to the forum, though.

I know that miatadan, with the MC462 vs MC611s, or I, can't really go wrong, either way.
