Sorry to hear of your break-in. I’ve had vehicles broken into numerous times and yes the feeling of violation hurts more than the loss.
Should be a lesson to all to make sure our home owners is up to date and our house very well documented. I keep a disc with photos of my house and contents in my safe deposit box. Hopefully I never need to retrieve it except for updates.
Hope all go well and your insurance company treats you fairly

Yes, you can setup keywords the will notify you when something is listed with those keywords, complete the purchase and let the police pickup...

Also keep an eye out on craigslist.

Could take a few months for some things to surface.

Thanks for all the support. I have found all receipts required as well as photos of stuff which will help with the claims portion.

I know how you feels as my home was broken into back in 2006. It will force you to do things you may have been putting off (safe, alarm, perimeter being more secure, etc). The good news is nobody was hurt and the feeing your having right now will diminish over time. What was the point of entry by the way?

Accept my sympathies. I've been burglarized as well.
I know you feel like crap, but for a second just imagine if you had walked in on those people when they were in your house! Being that your stuff was all over the floor and thieves left a mess, [how they gained entry also doesn't look very slick], we're looking at some unprofessional people. Unprofessional people don't take contingencies into account. Odds are they would have panicked, and would've attempted to hurt you, your spouse/kids, god forbid.
I'm positive that your gear will surface. It's too nice and distinct to be sold to a pawn shop, and too difficult to sell without a trace to a fence, unlike jewelry, for example.
The question for me is how they knew to target your house. Did you host any people to listen to your stereo, other than friends, recently? Someone had to set these thieves on you. Any repairmen worked in the house, and could've seen the stereo?

So sorry to hear of this horrible violation. The fact that they stole your military things and trashed your clothes makes me wonder if this was done by someone you know.

Keep you eyes up on CL and FB Marketplace. Some of your belongings may well start showing up for sale on those sites. Also hit a few of the local pawn shops over the next few weeks. The thief didn't steal because he wants to listen to music. He's hard up for cash. Might be a good idea to get some of your family members to help you canvas the area and keep their eyes open on the internet.

Default I understand -- happened to me

Luckily the stupid thief had no idea what my audio system was worth. But took a guitar amp, television, a bunch of other stuff that kept turning up missing over the next couple months and of course trashed the place. Violation is a good word for it. I can't pretend I have any idea what it must feel like to be raped and am of course not claiming any kind of equivalency, but I remember thinking it might be on the same continuim.

My only advice is try not to let the hate take over your psyche. That was the worst part for me. I'd be ashamed to say how long I daydreamed or how many nights layed in bed playing through in my mind meeting that punk in a dark alley. Knew who he was but couldn't get the cops to do anything. Hope you get over it and back to your life ASAP.

Sorry to hear about your violation. All the best.
