Hmmm this new device possibly in the works may be interesting. A UDP with 4k and streaming services... I wonder if it would give Oppo 205 performance with the streaming capabilities of the 105.

Yes. I just bought the Cambridge universal player which apparently is based on the Oppo platform. Not bad for $699. Should take delivery this week.

I’ll be very interested to see your thoughts on this unit, Carlos. I don’t have a 4K player yet and have been thinking about this one.

Sony offers an 'ES' series player that my local shop tells me is a better than an Oppo.

Does it have HDMI audio outputs? Since I have the Bryston BDA-3, that's what I'm really after.

Carlos.......The newest Sony 4K Blu-ray player is the UBP-X1000ES that retails for $499.00. It does have a separate HDMI audio output, as well as coaxial and optical digital outputs. It also has stereo left and right channel outputs, but these outputs are unbalanced (RCA) only. The player also lacks the 7.1 analog outputs that the new Panasonic DP-UB9000 provides, a feature that may or may not be important depending on the installation. The Panasonic DP-UB9000 also supports HDMI audio output, but does not support DVD-Audio or SACD. It's retail price is said to be $1200.00.

The new Pioneer UDP-LX500 (and the future flagship) also offer SACD playback, DVD-audio, a second HDMI out (audio only) and analogue surround outputs.

There is life after Oppo.

To the best of my knowledge there are no analog surround outputs on the Pioneer players (both the LX500 and the LX800). Strictly 2 channel analog output with hdmi connections for surround output.
