There's a whole thread on this very subject on the Pass Labs section. Check it out.

I can't speak from experience to be fair (never compared against the X line). I think there are quite a few people on here that have made that progression, so hopefully someone can chime in.

My brother uses twin XA30.5s on a very efficient speaker, and they really can sing. I debated for a long time about moving up to the XA160.5s, but I rarely (if ever) move the needle on the Sashas. They have a tougher impedance, but are a bit more efficient than the Sophias.

Hard call on whether the XA30.5s would be challenged. I imagine it will be very dependent on what kind of music you enjoy, but I think you'd be very surprised at just how much Class A grunt they put out.

You may want to wait a bit. Pass is introducing their new .8 series at CES next month. I'm sure you'll see a flood of XA.5 amps on the market after that.

Thank You for the answer.I play all kinds of music.Infected Mushroom is a favourite right now.But I really like ALL kinds of music. If the XA30.5 was enough to power the Sophias it could be a alternative. The X250.5 seems to be a safer bet on that though...

Ok.Thank You for the tip!The market in Europe is not as flourishing regarding Pass Labs amps as the US,though.I am not sure that it will make the same impact here unfortunately.

Best Regards
