I originally got interested in Shindo because I wanted to go in an all-analog, all-tubes direction with my system, but I've been having some trouble getting good sound out of vinyl. The question I would like to ask the forum members here is, "Does it make sense to go with Shindo if you're not doing vinyl?"

Also, does anyone here use reel to reel tape?
I have two WTL tables, that I use in to a Shindo/Alec Valencia 846A setup. If you use a Simplex with a good cartridge, in to a properly matched SUT, you should have great sound.

Hi fjn04,

Thanks for the advice. I see you're using the EMT tsd-15 - how do you like it? Have you used any other cartridges that you liked? I've been interested in the Denon DL103, but I'm not sure how good a match it is with the Well Tempered tonearms. Do you have any experience?

I recently picked up an Aurieges-MM and have been enjoying the sound quite a bit, although vinyl playback is not yet where I'd like it to be. I may start a thread to solicit tips on how to get the best sound out of it. In any case, I am one step closer to a full Shindo system.

Bill- The Tsd-15 is a very enjoyable cartridge. The Denon in stock form, may not be the best match for Well Tempered arms. However, Sound-Smith and Charisma Audio both make versions of the 103, which include scrapping the plastic in favor of wood. I'm not the best technical person, but I believe this changes the compliance, and may make them a better match with the WT arm. Congrats on your Aurieges.

If you go the D-103 route you will need a step-up transformer - one of the best matches for that cartridge is the Auditorium SUT built to match the Denon - they come up on several sites for sale used.
Not sure about matching cartridges to your arm but a Google serach could help you regarding matching. IF it could work I would look into Hana, or perhaps NOS Supex, Fidelity Reserach etc.

Hi!

I’m new to the board. Looking forward to learning more about Shindo, with the thought of replacing my Modwright preamp with a Shindo preamp. I’m trying to research which Shindo might be comparable with my KWA 150SE power amp (input impedance 23K at 1Khz, 15k min at 50hz).

My system (currently):

Preamp: Modwright SWL 9.0 Anniversary
Power Amp: Modwright KWA 150SE
Phono Amp: Modwright PH 9.0
Turntable: VPI Aries 3D
Cartridges: Ortofon Cadenza Black, VAS Nova Signature MR
SUT: VAS MC-One Mk 2
Speakers: Daedalus DA-1.1 v2 (96 dB)
Speaker Cables: Daedalus/Wywires
Interconnects:Grover Huffman/Kimber
Digital: Sony HAP Z1ES, Rega Planet 2000
