I do have a sub.
I am trying to solve the 2 channel bass before getting to the sub. The Mc setting is in manual, sub set to off, and my sub turned off so there is no crossover. I also will listen with a sub, which too has limited bass until I learned to set the crossover to 80, for some reason setting it to 40 had less bass. My sub is probably underpowered, it's a 10" 2400 watt velodyne in a roughly 1,000 sq ft room. Movies shake the house, music is underwhelming. Sonus Faber has a training class for setting speakers for better bass. My salesguy volunteered my home for the example demo. Hopefully it will work out and they come. If not there is another audio store which they claim specialize in masters program which they move a speaker around to find the perfect location, inch by inch, carpet hair by carpet hair. I'm redoing the carpet so my equipment is pushed away from the wall right now. When that's done I'll have a great understanding of my system. |

The lower you set the crossover point the less bass the subwoofer will produce as you are limiting it's frequency range to a high of 40hz as opposed to 80hz. For music the lower you can get away with the better as to eliminate as much overlap with the main speakers as possible. Also for music you don't want the sub set to any higher level than the mains at a particular volume setting. You should not have it set to a level where you can identify it on it's own. In movies particularly action movies the bass is many times mixed at a higher level than the rest of the sound for the sake of effect.

What your dealer (sounds like a knowledgeable REL dealer) is suggesting is that by using subs to make your 5 main speakers truly large and full range, you will get better results. If he does it correctly he is spot on. Doing MASTERS for a living? Hmm. Somebody just needs to put that darned horse out of its misery! |

3 Hz? Jeez - that's a whole other country. Rotary sub? Or something from Mark Seaton?

Never understood why the change was made. It was 20Hz for many years.

He also mentioned the 5 subs do a few things. Having a sub everywhere puts you in a bubble of sound. The center channel having a sub gives a raspy male voice a much better sound. |

The reason for my joke is that I probably know who it is - I taught MASTERS and STARS to dealers for about 15 years starting in 1999.

perhaps this is covered in other discussions on the O3s, not sure, i just recently joined and have not caught up on every discussion ...I originally had my reflex ports pointing inwards (on the short wall of a rectangular room) and found bass was lacking, now i have them pointed outwards towards the side walls, and I find the bass good now....I didn't move them at first as i wanted them to brake in a little before i started switching things around and I also read some reviews prior to purchase where the reviewer indicated pointing the reflex inwards was preferred ...
