Incredible surprise....Wyred for Sound DAC-2 in the house!!

Hey Pete,
I was one of the first ones to get the DAC-2. I think it's been about a year, but who knows. Audiophiles judge time by the turn of equipment, not the calendar.

The unit was run for about six weeks straight and opened nicely over that time. Subsequently, it sat disconnected on a shelf with several other unused pieces of equipment. If you are interested in higher resolution music, I'd recommend the async USB connection. I couldn't tell from your picture if you have a computer near by, but that would open up a Pandora's box of audio possibilities. And yes, cables do indeed matter. WW makes a USB cable that is head and shoulders better than most of the competition.

Karl...congrats on your new DAC! I have no doubt you'll be very pleased with it....from what Reg tells me, my unit probably has enough hours on it already to be considered broken in. This is a great piece of gear, and my "black" unit is in perfect condition. Some consider its cosmetics less than pretty, and think its unusual size and shape may not work well in the typical equiment rack. However, in my case, I am glad this unit is the size and shape it is, as I have no room left for "full sized" component in my arrangement. I had one space available, just right for this unit. I also see its location, right next to my turntable, as rather appropriate. I like the way it looks in my system, and I find its blue display (with variable brightness) attractive. And I love the way it sounds!

I'll write a more complete review once I've had more time to listen to it. Enjoy your DAC-2!

Reg....from what you are telling me, this unit is likely fully broken in. I don't have a computer that regualarly resides nearby, but I do have a laptop. I'll probably check out the USB input at some point pretty soon...and who knows, maybe eventually I'll get a smaller, portable device that can be docked right next to it.

Right now, I'm just enjoying its sound and getting accustomed to its features....I was up till 3AM last night!

Pete.......The Wyred 4 Sound DAC2 looks like it fit in perfectly. I think it looks great in all black sitting next to your turntable. Reading your words above I remembered back when I had my MCD500 at your home, and how much better it sounded than the DACs in the older MCD7009. I recall when I first mentioned an outboard DAC, in particular the W4S DAC2, you were a bit skeptical, so it is with a big smile on my face this morning to see your initial impressions. I would agree with you that the ESS 32Bit Sabre Reference dual quad DACs sound better than the ESS DACs in the MCD500.

I am still blown away by the wonderful generosity of Reg, and happy as a Lark for you. Here's to many hours of great audio performance in front of those awesome JBL's.

Dan...agreed. I too am still blown away by Reg's generousity, and also by the entire group here-this is not the first generous gesture extended to me by members here-I'm exteremely grateful and don't know how I can repay it. And of course, I am blown away by the performance of the DAC. I have to say, Dan... that quite a few observations you made in your review of the MCD1100 can be applied here.
