Default Bryston BIT certification

I know Bryston/Plitron has their components professionally inspected but what certifications such as CSA or Ontario Hydro approval do they carry?

What approval stickers are on the back of the BIT series?

Hi Stefan

Boy you touched a nerve on this one Its getting to the point that it takes longer to get approvals with the reems of paperwork these days than it does to design and manufacture a product !!!

Anyway, we carry ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) approvals and stickers for the North America BIT units. This is an Ontario based electrical approval, but it is widely recognized within North America. The European models have the CE sticker.

We are also starting the process of getting TUV reports for our BIT units which would allow us to get country specific electrical approvals for Australia, South Africa and some other countries that require special treatment.

That's good to hear James. Your hard work will be paid off. I will be choosing Bryston over other exotic power conditioners that don't have electrical approval. I am also making my dealer aware so he can inform other customers.

Now I just need to decide what model BIT-15 or 20 and rewire the room outlets.

Go with the 20 amp unit and use a 15 to 20 amp power cord for now. Then if you want to wire in a 20 amp circuit you just need to change the power cord.

james

PS - I am surprised to hear that units are being sold without certification - that can get you into serious trouble

If you are able to rewire there is always the larger units to consider, the 45, 60, etc. I'm not sure if you are aware of those since they still have not appeared as products on the Bryston website.

Some units are "tested according to CSA standards" but lack the actual certification (presumably to save money).

Will the BIT-20 have less chance of buzzing transformer noise than the BIT-15?

Hi

Yes always go with the larger transformer if budget allows - less chance of current overload.

Thanks James.

Are the BIT-20 still available with the old Bryston style faceplate as shown here but in black?

Bryston Limited: BIT20 Power Conditioner
Hi

No

We have gone with the new faceplate look as we wanted to provide more options for our customers - 17 inch was the only option with the older faceplate.

The new faceplate offers 17 or 19 inch as well as rackmount and also the new versions with AVR (auto voltage regulation) faceplates in 17 inch or 19 inch rackmount.

Also the new larger versions of the BIT's 60 amp etc. are now available with the new style faceplate.

Are the AVR's as quiet as the standard units?
