Default SDS with Original Classic

So the Falcon/Roadrunner combo didn't quite work out for me, so I sold them and purchased a used VPI SDS for my Classic. Received and swapped the capacitor in the Classic per Marc at VPI so the SDS would "recognize" the table.

No go...with the SDS on, the platter does not begin to spin when the power button is pushed. Reinstalled the new capacitor thinking I did it wrong. Nope, exactly as Marc instructed. Suggestions?

I suggest that you contact VPI again, they should be able to resolve the issue for you.

I did, waiting for a reply. Just thought maybe someone here might have had similar experience.

JMT-

Does your power cable plug directly into the turntable or does it plug into a "wall wort" thing then the "wall wort" thing plug into the turntable?

I have the "wall wort" type and this is a 600 rpm motor, 24 volt. This system was designed to be a built in SDS of sorts and not compatible with the SDS proper. To be compatible, the motor has to be changed out. I seem to remember VPI would do this for free if 1. the turntable was still within its warranty period and 2 the SDS was purchased new from an authorized VPI dealer.

Additional info:

My table is a classic I, version 3.

It has a "600 rpm motor and a 24 volt built in sine wave generating power supply."

This "60hz power supply generator provides a pure sign wave to feed the motor."

There was a thread about this on their blog a while back. They were for a time considering discontinuing the SDS so they "put a piece of the SDS" into the table itself.

That is probably why you had an issue with the falcon.

May sound too simple a question and likely you checked but did you push the power button on the Classic to turn it on? A lot of times while playing albums I will leave the SDS on and just tap the power button on the table to power off the motor. Possibly the SDS is on but the power button on the table is off.

Yes. I've tried it with the SDS on and pushing the power button on the table and with the the power button pushed and turning the SDS on.

I think that there is a Falcon unit just for this particular motor (??).

My table has a regular IEC connector, no wall wart.
