This is a superbly played and recorded SACD of concertos and symphonies by CPE Bach. I've heard warmer period instrument string tone, but it's still a fine sounding disc.

Hopefully they will release a box set with all the sonatas. Last edited by cma29; 12-29-2013 at 01:03 PM. |

As it is included in a box with volume 7, for the price of one volume, I didn't mind. It would be hard for me to pick just one. As soon as I heard the first one I had ordered, I simply had to have all of them. I'm a bit OCD in that way.

I love Podger's playing, but I can't stand the sound of fortepianos--they remind me of "honky-tonk" pianos in a bar!

John, I disliked it also in the past.
I used to prefer a modern Steinway by far. But the last years pianofortes have grown on me. I now even prefer Mozart and Schubert on the instrument they had in mind when they were composing.

Bach - Weihnachtsoratorium I-III
Essener Philharmoniker Essener Domsingknaben, directed by Georg Sump Live recording of December '11. My nephew is one of the Domsingknaben (unfortunately not on this picture, which is the only one I have), so this concert means a bit more to me than an other CD. The performance and the sound quality is above average, considering this is done by amateurs.

Thanks. I'll send off for this. Found a new SACD Hybrid on Amazon for $10. Not bad.

Domsingknaben huh? . . . Bart
Google Translate identifies this as being a word in the Javanese language, but fails to say what it means. . . translation please . . . ? Anyway, Bart, very nice looking boys choir and, no doubt, beautiful music. The sound of boy sopranos singing is like no other - much like choirs of angel's. Just FYI - 147 years ago, I was a boy soprano soloist - unfortunately for me (and for the world at large too, I'm sure) when my voice changed I was left with a voice that would make a bull frog cringe. Who knows, I might have been a young Pavarotti in the making. What a loss to civilization. And Bart, thanks for sharing.
