Default SP3 Max!
I would encourage all SP3 owners to connect their SP3 to a bridge so that it can communicate with your router and allow you to control all SP3 functions with an iPad. It is so convenient, and is a brilliant concept. This feature along with that of the BDP-2 lets me know the Jetsons is now.

What is a bridge? Do mean connect it to your home network?

A bridge is a device that connects to your Ethernet input and essentially wirelessly connects to your router as if it was hard wired to it. It used to be referred to as a gaming bridge. My bridge is Linksys WES610N. It allows four Ethernet connections so I have the SP3, the BDP-2, and my old Sony BDP5000ES connected to it which essentially makes them wireless although they don't have built in wireless capabilities; only Ethernet.

Default SP3 Upgrade.
There is a new firmware upgrade for the SP3 dated March 2015 that I have already installed although I cannot tell you it's improvements.

It took me a while to figure this out... if you access the SP3 from a web browser, there's a tab that takes you to the current firmware. Sorry, I can't remember how it's labeled, and I'm not at home right now.
