I don't use the DP as a DAC, but that would be good to know if it has a different operating logic that also turns on the laser when just using the DAC as a stand alone. |

Ok, so I have a Luxman SACD player and I use the DAC section of it for streaming ALL DAY LONG. Whether the laser is ON or OFF, will not cause me to listen to less music. It will have served a good life if the laser ever goes. I don't think the laser is on by the way but it would not matter. What is the solution if it is? Buying another expensive stand alone DAC? Or settling for a cheap one so as not to wear out the SACD player? Neither scenario appeals to me. My SACD will be worked like a mule, making sweet music. When and if it goes, it will be time for another, newer, even better DAC that I will put to daily use/work of singing for me again.

I have left my SACD on for weeks at a time around the clock and I often leave streaming music pumping through it all night long so it is nice and toasty for a juicy, morning listening session. It sounds much better when it has been thermally operational and stable for many, many hours. I treat my tube amp the same way. ON in the morning but OFF at night, mostly for safety reasons. The SS Class A Luxman typically goes OFF at night in the summer or it warms up the room and my thermostat for that zone is not in the same room. I have left it on for weeks during the break in phase although it really blossomed only after a short few days of playing music. |

Life is short and should be as sweet as possible. I am not going to worry about some wear and tear on the things that are supposed to bring me pleasure. Preamp tubes are not expensive all things considered but obviously keeping them burning overnight is not logical either as they have a "bell curve" of performance and get worse with time. |

I fear the hassle of replacing them more than the cost!

You are overthinking it... It did not seem to be more complicated than a few screws to me when I glanced at the few pictures in the tube replacement thread.

Laser head DP 560-750
Quote:
The laser head SACD Sanyo SF-HD870 is in both DP560 et au DP750. Example for MODEL:KSS-213C Used by Sony Not related to Accuphase ! and for the sake of the point the Service Life of Laser Diode Is stated as follow: After 3,000 hours operation at 25 °C, defective rate is under 0.1% (excluding damage due to electrostatic discharge) Then I wonder what Accuphase designers planed as life cycle for this part knowing that in Japan streaming is not very popular Part is today easy to find and cost few dozen of $ but on long run .... Personally if i don't find an answer i would buy a DAC50 for streaming as I use Qobuz for discovering new music before buying CD copy.
