Addressing the first part of your comment Aditya -- Master and word clocks are used synonymously when they aren't. These days with multiported outputs, port 1 is normally considered the master and the other available output ports as slaves.

Word clocks are normally BNC ports in a hopefully perfect square or sine wave running at the sampling rate; i.e., 44.1kHz which is the most common standard or 48.1kHz (and other customized variables). Perfect being jitter free.

Thanks for the detailed answer bob! I shouldn’t need to clock more than two sources (transport and music streamer) and then also the dac.

I was to understand EXTERNAL CLOCK IN bypasses the internal clock, and the external clock timing gets distributed to all the other devices connected to the master clock. In other words, when the master clock is receiving an external clock signal it simply behaves as a distribution amplifier. In my application, where I only have one clocked device, I couldn't see the point of using the Esoteric master clock. I might as well use the single channel GPS derived timing connected directly to the clocked device. The Esoteric would serve no purpose as a distribution amplifier when there is only one device connected to its output.

Does anyone who owns a clock have an opinion on break in? I feel like there's some ups and downs going on over here, just wondering if it's normal, or if it's me. I've listened so much that it could totally be me! I'm probably fatigued.

Also, it's very overwhelming to have hundreds of combinations of settings. Between the clock freqs and the upsample and filters, I figure 250 combinations. The filter I used to use may no longer be my favorite... That's why I included all those settings.

Anyway it's hard to be sure if the 10mhz clock sync or 22.5mhz master clock is best.

I've got a call into Scott Sefton to see what he recommends and to answer questions I have. Hopefully I'll hear back tomorrow.
