Progress toward resolution, anyway. I'm sure the Oppo will fill in nicely until you get the QX-5 back. Let us know how the repairs go.

Good luck, db.

Just read the new Stereophile RC list. QX-5 is Class A.

When I'm ready for a streamer (via Tidal, HDTracks, etc), I'll look into the QX-5 along with Aurender. I (at this moment in time) don't have any desire to rip my CD collection.

I got one of the first QX5/20's. It replaced one of the best DAC's I've heard in my Empirical Audio ODSE/SE with every upgrade Steve made. Totally different DAC's, but the QX5 has just as much micro and macro detail, but is more musical. Just a great DAC for sound alone. My friend and I havce been doing a shootout with servers and so far the Aurender N10 has bested virtually every server under 30k you can come up with. The computer based ones aren't even on the same page.

Anyone else having problems lately with the QX 5 dropping out after 5-6 songs? This happens with both Ethernet and USB.

Running Mconnect Paid app. I have the latest G firmware.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry, but I'm of no help. Fortunately, I am having no problems. Do you have a disc player you could connect directly to the QX-5? If that works fine, that tells you it is not the hardware. After that I'd try reloading the app.
Falling all the above, I would just call Ayre. They are super helpful.

had that problem today after a few songs. I wasn't too happy and didn't even think of this thread. Now after reading this, I wonder if it's the QX or the Mcontrol....I do hate the app to be honest.

I made sure the settings for the Melco were correct, checked the internet, reflashed the latest firmware on the QX 5 and now it plays 12 songs before dropping out. Tried calling Rye Friday with no luck, Michael,s line always busy. Will try tomorrow and see what setting Arye has on there Melco/QX5 set up.
Charles Hansen was referring to a great App on CA the other week but I cant seem to find it, supposedly very expensive but supposed to be the best.

Default Ayre QX-5 Twenty First Listen

I don’t think I have nearly enough hours on the [emoji442] amp section and am letting it burn in with the Ayre IBE disc when I am not listening. I gave it 10 hours of pure noise track torture over night and it seems noticeably smoother today with my ruthlessly transparent and sometimes bright, balanced, Grado PS1000e cans. The demo unit I heard at Audio Consultants last year must have had a more broken in headphone section because I heard it with the same cans and it sounded really smooth. The headphone amp is formidable, especially balanced and replaced my Bryston BHA-1 easily, and that was a fine unit. I am hoping it will further improve with another week of torture.

Blackstone. Wait until it burns in. I am running a pair of ZMF Ori's, balanced using Audio Art's cable. WOW is this a great sounding amp. I feel my can's are better overall than the Audeze LCD 4's. Better timber etc... I have heard the Woo and Cavelli amps and this amp is much better. It can be a spec bright on some cuts, but I think it's because of how revealing it is.

Keep us posted. Also feel free to call one of these days to catch up, lol. Hope all is well.

So I put a week on it and it is a tad better. It is a spec bright, but the demo at the store with the same cans was not even a spec bright. I am wondering if the difference I am hearing is my lack of Melco. The demo used a Melco. My Grado’s are ruthlessly revealing if something is off. They sound anemic compared to the store demo. Of course if the Melco does what it is supposed to do, I really shouldn’t be able to get the same results from my beastly PC...and I am certainly not. My suspicion is that the headphones would benefit tremendously from a better source. I might burn in for another week just in case.
