I can't see me ever spending over ~$700,000 on music or storing the ~60,000 CD cases it would require to own 12tb of music.

The available space starts to dwindle when you start sharing files and have multiple copies (Different pressings/origins) of the same album. I'm closing in on 5TB. I'll never say that I'll never get to 12TB but you never know.

I agree with OP. Since I started with Tidal, I have not bought a single CD. I now have thousands of albums (millions of tracks) available a few clicks away.

I love Tidal and the integration with Roon. I certainly use Tidal to test new music. I’m also guilty of finding music on Tidal and then buying the hi-res download or vinyl. So, I’m somewhere in between the 2 ends of the spectrum. Overall Tidal is clearly well worth it to me.
I’m enjoying more and different kinds of music than I ever did before. I can play around with music I would never buy, but that I enjoy on occasion. Sometimes my wife will ask “what in the world are you listening to??” |

It would actually be significantly more than 20K since they were saved in FLAC, Where do you store 60K-70K CD's once you rip them? In FLAC 1000 CD's is about 200GB.

Oh, right, I was looking at the infographic, which is probably figuring WAV files. So you are right, it's probably 3 times that! OMG!

Other than purchasing a few more XRCDs over the past 3 years, I have spent nothing on music media. With Tidal the quality is definitely good enough for mostly headphone listening that I do. If I get around to building another system, I will try to compare physical media to Tidal but I am convinced I will be happy enough with Tidal just like many of you.

I havent bought music since going roon/tidal.
I *have* compared a cd transport Vs a local rip vs Tidal all playing the same tracks .. they all sound the same I have 3 tb of ripped files , approximately 7000 cds, all of which are currently in storage
