Good question for the dealer. Knowing Ayre, there is probably a good reason for it OR a glitch they don't even know about.

Well, got myself the "cheap" QX-5 remote. Way better than the aluminum remote. Other than bling factor I'm surprised this isn't the standard KX-R remote.

Think I will unwrap my QX-5 remote and check it out. Curious now. Still love the metal remote though. For me, it works fine.

Does it improve the sound compared to a cheap remote?

As Bar81 said, you could consider a Harmony remote.

I liked the heft of my KX-R remote when I owned the unit. Looks a lot nicer than the one that comes with the QX5. I think Ayre did a excellent job with the user interface of the KX-R preamp. I twas pleasure to use.

Funny, I have both the large AX5/20 remote and the QX5 one. I use my Harmony One or whatever they call it whenever I'm using the TV and stereo and just the smaller one when using my audio.

Same here. I like the heft and solidity.
