JDANDY, thanks for the reply and the welcome. I don't have a C1100 at the moment but I'm hoping to get one in the next year. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions. Thanks again.

The C1100 preamplifier is software and microprocessor controlled. Using a proprietary cable it can be connected to the McIntosh D1100 DAC which allows full DAC control using the C1100 controls and remote. The firmware update was necessary for the two components to be able to communicate.

I had my C1100 software updated about 6 months ago by AudioClassics and they installed V2.01.
