Broadway and opera do it all the time.[/QUOTE]

Sure but that’s a different venue and a different viewer and far from “Wonder Woman meets Batman after having a fling with the Joker” coming in 2025.

Broadway and some operas are also closed right now. I’m sure they will bounce back but many financial hardships will have to be endured.

Studios are not exactly producing right now, hence the other problem for theaters.

As stated, Broadway and Opera are different from movies, with different expectations from their audiences I have had the pleasure (pain?) of playing in pit orchestras for both and found the audiences very appreciative and......older.
The last time my wife and I went to the movies, (It was the Knives Out movie ) there were maybe 8 couples in the theater. And then you're assaulted by all that crap played before the movie, not to mention the 20 minutes of previews. All this while the audience
plays with their phones and talk. Younger also. Or maybe less mature, with limited attention span.
I love to go to movies and look forward to going again once theaters open up. I really would like to see Dune, and I'll pay special attention to the audiences and their ages, and behavior. But I still stand by my opinion that todays audiences do not have the attention span for an overture. I hope I'm wrong.

... at least the studios are not releasing.

I think the Hateful Eight was the last attempt at roadshow exhibition. Tarantino shot in anamorphic 70mm and released in about 100 theaters that were provided with the projection equipment. In its roadshow format it had overture, entr'acte, and exit music.

I did not see it in a theater the way Tarantino would have wanted it but I enjoyed the movie. Tarantino is not a fan of the Hollywood digital camera trend at all.

I only saw it at home. I was happy to see him do a movie - a western - in anamorphic 70mm, but I was surprised when I saw it that so much of it took place in enclosed spaces - a stage coach and a log cabin. I would have preferred more wide open outdoor spaces, but, then that would have been a different movie.
