Then they have the speaker wire terminated into some kind of connector that looks almost like an rj11 phone jack. Then, the wire connected to the weird connector is somehow affixed to the side of the adapter going into the top hole at an angle

Don't know about you guys, but I have no idea what they are trying to show there, and have never seen anything like that. It makes no sense to me.

I do think my system sounds better using the method we discussed here, running the banana into the hole like you would bare wire
Joey, it's a Furutech Banana connector. I use them because they offer the most secure banana connection......
The concept is simple....each banana connector is split, when inserted into the speaker connector on your amp or speaker you turn the blue coloured head (marked white/red = +/-) this opens out the split banana in the speaker/amp terminal thereby forming an ultra reliable tight fit.

Here's a clearer photograph of the connector....

@springbeg - Thanks so much for that information! I had never seen something like that before. I suppose if you wanted to use those, you would have to terminate the bare wire into the furutech connector, yes?

In my case, I don't think Analysis Plus does that. I am just going to have them reterminate them with 3/8" spades. 1/4" and 3/8" spades are the normal standard sizes from what I have gathered. McIntosh dealer seems to also agree that 3/8" should be the correct size.

Thanks for your help and taking the time to post the pictures. That *really* helps. Picture is worth 1000 words, right?!

Figuring I had no reason to remove them, I just clamp down on the bare wire.

Actually joey, my JPS Labs Superconductor 3's came supplied with these connections but it is a straightforward conversion if chosen.

I feel like the biggest dumb ass in history. Been using Spades forever but new Nordost speaker cable I have now has banana z plugs.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to hook up these to the MC601. I think I've re-read this thread about 6 times

Anyone have pictures video? Morris code?

Stick your fingernail or a razor blade under the cap and pry upward.
