I have significantly improved the area behind the walls of my mancave.

You have gone through the door on the right. Note all the new OSB board

And the new duct work in the next two pics below.

You have gone through the door on the left. This side had exposed fiber glass insulation and tremendous dust. It was becoming a health hazard.

This is the inside wall. Note the return. No filter there anymore.

Inside wall on other side. This was long overdue but I didn't have the time or energy.

Finally after 30 years, I have a room and a hall going down stairs that is "right". I'm looking forward to a summer with much better temperature control on the east side of the house. All the old duct work in the downstairs is going and a complete revision of the HVAC system. A massive revision.

I dunno Charles. Maybe it’s just me, but I am seeing some similarities here. Do you have any plans beyond “temperature control”? The quality of your equipment would certainly warrant it if not the quantity. Regardless, congratulations on moving forward with these improvements. I look forward to following along.

Nice work, Charles! You'll never regret doing this work.

We needed a new furnace (forced hot air) a few years ago. I got a quote from my usual HVAC contractor, who has always been very good. But I also got a quote from another dealer because I was interested in Trane. He spent quite a while assessing the system and suggested some minor changes. His team did the work and it made a huge difference in our comfort level. Just like hi-fi, with HVAC it's all about the install.

As a crazy coincidence, the Trane guy is an audiophile who immediately recognized my VPI TNT because he's also using one. But his buddy Harry Weisfeld is slowly convincing him to go DD.

Small world.

Thank you, My room as you can see is a converted attic. Being over the garage it has been difficult to heat and cool, particularly to cool in the hot summers. I'm happy that I have finally gotten a handle on the issue (I hope). The additional duct work (4th pic from the top) goes into the ceiling of the kitchen and utility room which are on the extreme east end of the house that used to be the old garage. This area has three additional floor vents. The duct work supplying them is crushed and air flow through these vents is poor. All the old duct work will now be replaced. Because the east end is so far from the 5 ton unit and with the duct work crushed, the east end has been too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. I'm hoping to get much better air flow through them also. Upkeep on a house is expensive.

The mancave is on the extreme northeast end of the house and totally isolated. I keep the door open now to let the bass and rest of the sound flow out the rear. This project has helped me move forward and take my mind off the terrible fact that Debbie is gone and I'm the only one in the house.

Best

Charles

Cleeds, completely agree. Usually when the downstairs is too cold the mancave upstairs is heating and vice versa. I'm hopeful to get away from having to run space heaters downstairs when it's really cold or having the unit run all the time in the mancave because of leaking duct work or poor insulation. Nothing is perfect. Even in a new house there can be problems.

You are right about the install. It's as important as the equipment. I think Trane is excellent an HVAC.

Best

Charles

In isolated spaces away from the central plant the use of mini-split A/C is the foolproof way to maintain constant temperature and humidity. Noise on some units is below 30 dBa.
