Relocation to Fort Worth

Hi all,

I have recently been made an offer for a decent promotion that would mean relocating from UK to Fort Worth, Texas.

I was made the offer this afternoon so have not undertaken any research myself as yet but thought it would be worth my while asking you guys.

Is anyone here from Tx or Fort Worth or knows it. What is it like as a place to live? Any info would be of value.

Fort Worth actually is preferred by many over Dallas. Smaller city with distinct Western heritage. Downtown has been revitalized with number of restaurants and shops. Nice neighborhoods outside downtown area and near TCU. I live between the two in Denton County.

Totally agree with Quin. I'm also in-between the two in Denton County and I believe there is a lot more "charm" to Ft Worth. Lots of options for places to live in and around the city.

Come visit first if you can!

I believe it was one of America's top cities to live in sometime in the past several years if I'm not mistaken.......I was in Dallas this past weekend and on a side note visited Forever Young Records......holy crap, it's said to be the 3rd largest record store in the country. It was massive and the inventory was second to none....pretty awesome.

On a side note....the CDC confirmed the first US Ebola case this afternoon in Dallas!!

London is such a world-class city, that I would have a hard time transitioning from there to Texas, but the cost of living is definitely lower in Ft Worth.

Dallas - Ft Worth is a very good area. Lots to do and not overly expensive. This area has been getting a bit crowded over the last few years as people move to Texas to enjoy a vibrant economy with low to reasonable taxes. Traffic can be a challenge but it is not as bad as other cities in the US.

Wish you great success in TX if you decide to take this offer.

Ft Worth is an enjoyable, laid-back city compared to its neighbor Dallas. At one time they had a nice live venue downtown (Caravan of Dreams) that has been turned into a restaurant. Haven't been there since the change. Congrats on your promotion - oil and gas sector?

Hi guys,

Thanks so much for your words of advice - much appreciated. As suggested I plan to make a visit first to get a flavour of the place and whether it would work for us. I am trying to establish how much money I would make post taxes in Texas - is there a take home salary calculator that calculates how much you take home after paying all taxes? Is it typical for large companies to pay private health insurance as part of total package?

Bill, Congratulations on your opportunity. I don't know much about Ft Worth, but for cost of living information try this site. I've used it in my company for estimating costs to transfer employees.

It has several tools for comparing cost of living. According to their rankings, London is #16 for cost of living, Dallas is #635. You can find good info here on various costs related to the specific location. Good luck.
