They only do that on the outside or to the power, if there is a splitter make on the inside of the house it is grounded to the splitter well. Maybe youtrs was done, most are not.

Well it is possible it is the amp in the sub

No, no splitter in the house.

Hsu Research states to check the sub by unplugging the pre-amp, with the sub energized, increase the volume, no hum.

EDIT, the sub does not have XLR inputs, so I can't test that.

I have multiple subs distributed around the room and that gives them plenty of opportunity for ground loops. I ended up using 10K:10K isolation transformers between each sub and the crossover. The noise went entirely away and for sub duty I didn't worry about the ultimate in line level transformers; I picked some up from Edcor and put them in small anodized boxes with an XLR on the input and a ~.5M cable with an RCA on the output. They look good and stop the noise cold. No more hum or buzz from the subs.

Default Gone!

I had an isolation transformer overnighted, plugged it in, turned it on.

No more hum!

Yea!

EDIT: grinning ear to ear! Yes, I do need another, but my bank account needs a reprieve too.

Rmac, congrats! Hum is one of my pet peeves when new gear arrives. Glad it worked out.
