Sub hum

Hello folks, a humble new subscriber here thanks to Robert.

I just received my new sub and connecting it results in a hum. I've followed the manufacturers suggestions so far, with no difference.
I do not have dimmer switch on the circuit. I cannot change the circuit, as the living room outlets are all on the same circuit.
I have used different cables.
I have removed the other components, one by one.
My next step is an ac power line noise filter, or is it?

The sub is a Hsu Research VTF-2 MK 4.
Nine meter cables by Oasis 6 by WireWorld, as suggested here.
My pre-amp (B&K Pro 10-MC Sonata Series) has rca pre outs. My main speakers are XLR outs.
This is for 2.1 music only.

Rmac, is your audio system tied to a cable TV in any way? If so, unhook the cable feed and if the hum goes away, there are solutions.

There are other things to use for diagnosis, but one thing at a time.

Hums are never fun....I often find that whenever I come across one, I can narrow it down to a digital source plugged into the same circuit...for me, it's usually the cable box. I noticed you said your setup is just 2-channel. Perhaps a source, like a disc player? Did you noticed any changes as you unplugged components one at a time?

For your next step, I would say that I agree with some sort of line/power conditioning. You will find many here who use a wide range of manufacturers with success. PS Audio, PurePower, Running Springs, APC, Shunyata.

Ivan (MasterLu), and Jeff (AVSolutions) are a dealers and carry one, or more of these lines, with the exception of APC.

Do you know if it is a 60hZ hum?

Have you tried lifting the ground to see if the hum stops?

I've got the same problem, so am interested in this.

Lifting the ground! Only when gardening. What does this mean? Actually taking the ground out of the circuit, as in trying to eliminate a ground loop? I really don't know, so am not trying to be funny. Well.....

Thanks all, I have removed the other items connected to the pre-amp, still the hum.

Ivan, the plugs are all two prong, but no, I can't tell the hZ.

chessman, no cable or box involved with the pre-amp, but, my cable box is plugged in a different plug, yet same circuit, the only one in the living room.

A friend suggested plugging into a different circuit, good idea, mentioned by 800D too. I'll try this, as it's quite simple.

Also guys, if you have direct, dish or cable go to your source coax where it comes in and put an inside the house ground wire from the coax cable junction aka splitter to the house ground.

I found this helps on the tv side the all 60hz hum since are all junkie china boxes.

Next ground lift each part of your system one at a time.

Lastly I need to go all xlr balanced cables to rid all traces of hum. Is your sub only rca?

No.

I just tried a different circuit, still the hum haunts me.

dj, the cable is connected to the house ground, they did that when they installed it.

EDIT, my pre-amp has XLR outs, those go to my mains, it has two sets of rca outs for this purpose, so that's what I'm using.
