For example my transport has problems to load the new TOOL – Fear inoculum CD.
I have to open and close the tray several times to play the CD.

I also read such problems have something to do with expensive power cords installed on the CD–player.....or is that a myth?

Myth.

By the way, not having the disk fully seated in the well of the tray can cause a misreading. Obvious in a way, but mentioned in a helpful, friendly spirit.

Regarding my MCD1100 which now functions as an excellent transport (it has the MCT output), my experience with the AQ Dragon Source power cord has been very positive. Prior to that I was using an MIT Z-cord which I thought was a good power cord. I had used the MIT Z-Center. Without going in to it I had a full array of MIT which I accumulated over the years and was happy with. I always thought power cords and conditioners were basically supposed to eliminate hum and noise and I had none, zero. So if it's not broke, don't fix it.

Then I went through a massive upgrade. I had noted previously that occassionally my MCD1100 would not turn on when I hit the power button. Mac said just unplug it and that worked just fine. Only happened once about every six months. Very minor irritation.

Nevertheless, it's been over two years. With the new AQ Niagra 7000 and Dragon power cords this peculiar problem has been eliminated. I never checked to see if it would occur with the stock power cord because I did not want to use the stock cord. I have never encountered a CD or SACD the MCD1100 would not play.

Best

Charles

Perhaps I was a bit too terse in my last reply.

As is Charles, I am a big believer in the sonic benefits of properly designed upgraded power cords and interconnects. However, I believe that the prime candidate for your disk reading problem lies elsewhere. Please permit me to expound.

I did own a MCD500 which would momentarily cause music to drop out on the SACD layer of several hybrid and single layer SACDs. There were no problems with RBCD's. These were phenomena that I could readily demonstrate to my dealer. The problem was fixed by the dealer by swapping the internal disk drive under warranty. The player was connected both before and after with a good quality Transparent power cord. You appear to have particular disks with the reading problem. Use those to demonstrate the problem to your dealer.

Another practice to be observant about is having disks properly seated in the disk tray. Various CD's have differing edges in terms of roundness and finish. McIntosh disk trays have a rather shallow well with a sloped circumference and it is easy to have the disk tray retract into the unit but fail to read the disk if the disk is a bit askew.

You could borrow a quality upgraded power cord and try it, but I would work at eliminating other likely possibilities beforehand.

Respectfully,

Bob

Has anybody an idea why my MCT500 only plays track 1/3/5/7 and so on of an album when a USB device is connected?
The MCT500 says track 2 „unsupported“ track 4 „unsupported“ ........strange!
I have no idea what this causes.....

New member here... just ordered the MCT500... was surprised to find out that I cannot use my usual Coax Digital cable.. I guess it's a Sony issue with legalities.. The DIN cable is indeed the only cable you can use to play SACD, but I think the other formats can be played thru Coax.. and I plan to use both the built into my MA9000 DA-2 DAC as well as my PSAudio DirectStream DAC (as I find it to be a bit smoother for my musical taste)..

Anyone know how this internals of this unit compare to the prior models? Transformers, disk drive, etc? At $5000, I hope that they at least kept the high grade Denon/Marantz drive?

Anyone open one of these up?
