TV Sound Bar
I am looking to improve the sound of our TV; mainly for clearer dialog. Nothing crazy just a single sound bar type thing as it is in the bedroom.
The TV is a 46" Samsung maybe 7 or 8 years old. It has a Toslink output as well as HDMI ARC. Blue Tooth/ air play/ Alexis etc compatibility is not an issue. Any suggestions? Thanks

I have had good luck with the Yamaha self powered options. Really cuts down on the needed components and makes the solution really easy to use. I have one in my living room and another in the room where the magic happens.
Now they don't compare to the real system but for what they are they are great.

We use a Sonos Playbar with our main floor flat panel TV. It performs very well with dialog and music and is a good complement to other Sonos devices we have in the house. So the advantage is access to all the music services and your library. Hookup is via Toslink. It does acoustic profiling of the room with your smartphone - seems to work in our case and is easy to turn off if you don’t like it.

Thanks you everyone!
I now have a direction. We are looking for a simple solution to take the sound up a few notches as we tend to miss words on various Amazon/Netflix series. Grew up in North Jersey and y'all know how we "tawk."  Budget is something less than an Alpha USB (LOL). Oh, speaking of cables, will better HDMI/ac power ramp up the picture/sound quality. Right now just using standard issue

I would go with a Samsung sound bar because it will switch inputs and turn off and on with the TV. No programming should be necessary. Their sound bars are little known but equal the best. One of the primary reasons I chose Samsung is inclusion of ture bass and treble controls.
