Highest compliment audio gear can receive. Convey the "essence" and the "message" of the music and don't draw attention otherwise.

Oh and it is "Hadouk Trio".

The Yggdrasil portrayed the performance magnificently. All three instruments were fully developed and richly presented. The piano was crystal clear. Its diminishing notes hung so beautifully. The double-bass delivered a rich wood tone with deep definition and sustain to the notes. The drums revealed a remarkable clarity, striking dynamics, and cymbals had true metallic zest and lingering ring as they decayed. Like I said before, this DAC simply disappears. It is just me and the music. The Schiit Audio Yggdrasil is an outstanding digital to analog converter.

. . . . . . .

Dan, what a wonderful description.
Wasilewski is a seriously good jazz piano player.
I heard him last summer live, and the interplay between the 3 musicians was magic.
Listening to 'Faithful' right now.

Great review. Makes me want to kick my NIB 30th anniversary K-01X to the Curb and get the same results from this Dac and a PS Audio or Ayre Spinner and put the extra 10K towards something else. Think Im going to have to hire Dan as my Audio Advisor

I feel that the K-01x is probably the best transport out there, plus it is all in one box.

David.......I agree with you, the K-01X is an amazing SACD/CD/DAC with a state of the art transport. Were someone looking for all the features it offers, the K-01X presents an impressive total package in a one box solution, albeit at $20K. On the other hand, if a person is looking for a premium DAC that decodes PMC with the very best DAC's available, it is extremely tough to beat the performance to price ratio delivered by the Yggdrasil DAC. The newly upgraded Yggdrasil at $2399.00, plus a superb transport like the Simaudio Moon Neo 260D at $2000.00, puts you into a high end source package for under $5K. That is a premium performance package that is hard to beat.

with the Moon as transport you loose the capability to play SACD compared to the K01x.

Another thing that needs consideration is that the K01x will have an internal "clock link" between transport and DAC, My wadia 381i also has that clock link between DAC and transport and in my view that really works, I have tried external DAC's with the Wadia, but the analog output from the Wadia wins here all the time.

You don't put the PCM only Yggy behind any transport if you have a large SACD collection.
