Hello everyone,

I own a mostly Shindo system. Garrard 301 in LignoLab plinth with EMT 997 arm and Shindo Super-SPU cartridge, A23 Hommage into Shindo Masseto into Shindo Cortese, Shindo silver interconnects, A23 speaker cable and... a pair of original Snell K loudspeakers. Power via a Shindo Mr. T.

I think the Masseto was one of the great improvements in my system... I think probably more meaningful than the Hommage or the Cortese (previously had A23 regular step-up for SPU and the Monbrison into Montille). I don't know whether it's the presence of output transformers or what, but there's something outstandingly & vividly solid about music through the Masseto that's tremendously involving and ultimately satisfying and final.

(Interesting on the SUT question - I believe Art Dudley in the latest issue of Stereophile says that he sometimes prefers the built-in Shindo step-ups to the A23s, even the Hommage - first time I've ever heard anyone say that. I'll give a try... sometime.)

Anyway, hello everyone. This is my first post on the forum.

Patrick

Hi Patrick...welcome to AA and the Shindo forum. Glad to have you here with us and invite you to join in the 'spinning' forum where analog and vinyl rule. Look forward to seeing you there. Enjoy

Dave

Welcome from one Shindo san to another. I agree with your Masseto comments. The only thing I've heard that could beat it is the Giscours, but the Masseto offers a full course of the Shindo musical meal.

Thanks guys... I've been taking a break from posting on audio forums, after years of AudioAsylum and Audiogon (with side stints at Vinyl Engine and Audio Circle among others), but when I saw there was a Shindo forum here, I just had to jump in

I guess this really should have gone in personal introductions, sorry for the thread hijack!

Anyway for amplification upgrades in general, especially if you primarily listen to vinyl, I always say pre, pre, pre... (unless you have a speaker matching problem of course).

Default Greetings and Thanks for all the info

Hi All:
As a very quick introduction, I have been working with Matt for a few years now and I now have the following system: Shindo Aurieges MM/Montille EL84, DeVore Super 8, Shindo I/C (pre-amp to amp), Auditorium A23 SC, Opera LP6.1 TT, 12" arm, EMT TSD-15n cartridge, Wavelength Proton DAC (PC system), Schitt Bifrost DAC (CD system), and Black Cat Morpheus I/C loom.

I am starting up the "improvement" slope, therefore your thoughts are most helpful. I plan on visiting Matt, whom I have never met in person (but think the world of) this summer, where we plan to sample/taste different elements to see what makes the most improvement sense...Do I go from the Super 8 to the Orangutans? How about the Aurieges to Montbrison or Masseto? Given my budget and the oversight of SWMBO ("she who must be obeyed"), I do believe that this comprehensive top-to-bottom system review to determine the most value bang-for-the-buck is the only way to go...Otherwise, I will keep shooting in the dark...

Thank you all, especially Matt, John D and Jonathan H (and the Shindo family), for making this all possible...
Best regards, Jonathan K

I would recommend speakers first then preamp. The more efficient orangutans will give you much greater dynamics and will allow you to get the most out of your 15w Montille.

Moving up the preamp chain will provide greater detail and instrument separation.

My $.02
