Momentum Preamp audition

I wish I had better news. Swapping in the new preamp had some awful hum and I’ve been troubleshooting ever since.

I sure hope something isn’t wrong with my unit- but I’m not having very good luck so far.

Are you using a trigger cable by chance? I’m assuming you’re using balanced connections??

I’ve disconnected all triggers. Xlr only.

When I introduced the new preamp I simply disconnected the C2300 and parked it in it’s place.

HUM city- and sounds terrible

I’ve done some troubleshooting with the factory and am now stripping down my whole system.

I’ll RE-cable everything and try again

Not the experience I was expecting- fingers crossed.

Yeh I know that feeling! I’m sure you’ll get it sorted but it can be frustrating trying to source hum when it never existed…has your dealer been of any help?

I haven’t bugged the dealer yet. I know this is a “holiday week” for many. The manufacturer has been helpful.

If I can’t sort it today or tomorrow I’ll probably pack it up and put my old preamp back in for this week to enjoy the holiday time as well and revisit next week.

Ivan helped me big time, and we dealt with the ground loop hum.

Now I can actually listen to the momentum preamp.

Definitely more detail. Tons of clarity.

I’ll need to get used to this sound to see if it’s for me. I miss the warmth of the tube sound I’m used to.

Maybe a tube DAC would get me back to that sound.

Let it grow on you.
Compare again after a couple of weeks.
You might decide you don't want to go back after all.

I agree. Making a change that significant is like getting a short hair cut. Takes a while for the shock to wear off and to get used to the difference.

Maybe a bad analogy, but you get the point.

Although, when I first heard the S250 amp in my system brought immediate joy. The upgrade was amazing and unmistakable.

I suppose I was hoping for that again after dropping nice car money on a preamp.

Alas, I’ll give it time.

Are you still using the MEN220, and if so, he is it connected?
